American playwright (1928-2016) known for works such as The Zoo Story, The Sandbox, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?, and others. Black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by him.  Size is 8 x 10 inches, in excellent condition.

French novelist (1847-1901), dramatist, and journalist; best remembered today as the friend and biographer of Emile ZolaAutograph letter in French signed by him, dated in Paris, October 14, 1887, concerning some prepared drafts. Size is 4.5 x 7 inches, sold untranslated, in very good condition.

Brazilian writer (1912-2001) of the modernist school, and remains the best-known of modern Brazilian writers. Regular postcard with the image of the Porta Pia in Ancona, Italy (not shown), signed by him on verso with a short sentiment. Size 4 x 5,75 inches, postal markings on verso, some ink-writing by a third hand, in overall very good condition.

American poet (1928-2014) and also civil rights activist. Beautiful black-and-white promo photograph signed and inscribed by her.  Size is 8 x 10 inches, in excellent condition.

Italian journalist (1807-1887), lifelong friend of Giuseppe Verdi. Autograph letter signed, dated in Livorno, 1871. One page, in Italian (sold with translation), size is 4.25 x 5.3 inches, in excellent condition.

English poet, novelist, and journalist (1836 or 1838-1917), autograph letter signed, 1 page, dated in 18746, to an unknown recipient regarding sending them a copy of his books.  Size is 4.5 x 7 inches, 1 fold and small creases, otherwise in very good condition.

French dramatist (1820-1889), the author of several successful plays and works, Augier created the libretto for Charles Gounod´s first opera, "Sapho". Autograph note signed, no date, one page in French, sold untranslated, 4.25 x 5.25 inches. In very good condition.

American writer (1836-1907), poet, critic, and editor. Short poetry from his work "Two Moods" on a piece of paper signed by him. Size is 8 x 5 inches, folds, in very good condition.

German poet and writer (1800-1833), brother of the composer Giacomo Meyerbeer. Autograph letter in French signed by him, dated April 29, 1824, to a certain Mr. Pougine "... Mr. Pougine, a member of the Institute and of several other learned societies...", concerning some poetical texts he sent.  Size is 4.7 x 7.1 inches, folds, creases, some dirt smudges, in very good condition (see scans provided).

British author and translator (1844-1933). Autograph letter in English signed by her, no date, about personal matters. Size is 4.3 x 7 inches, 2 written pages in one sheet (front and back), in very good condition.

French playwright (1848-1912), vaudeville creator, and novelist, whose best know work was his play "Madame X". Autograph letter in French signed by him, dated in Paris, May 29, 1908, about business. Size is 4.2 x 5.2 inches, 2 written pages in one sheet, in very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is his personal card with a short quote written by him.

Norwegian poet/writer (1832-1910) and recipient of the Nobel Prize of Literature in 1903. Signed photo postcard, dated by him in Rome in 1904. Size is 3.4 x 5.4 inches, in excellent condition.

Mauritian Writer (1860-1937), related to the Mahé de la Bourdonnais and Surcouf families Set of three autograph letters signed by him, as follows: 1. Dated October 10,1891 to a colleague: “...les heures sont lentes qui nous séparent, nous qui travaillons en silence, du succès que les nécessités de la vie rendent enviable (...) Votre article du Courrier du Soir m’a fait grand plaisir...”. Size is 4.4 x 6.8 inches, 2 written pages in one sheet, in very good condition. 2. Dated March 1, [1900], to the art critic Henry Lapauze (1867-1925): “...Oserai-je, profitant de l’occasion de vous écrire, recourir à votre sympathie au sujet de ma nouvelle le Gardien, qui attend depuis plus d’ un an au Gaulois?...”. Size is 4.3 x 5.45 inches, 1 page, central fold. C. Dated September (no date) to a friend: “...Ferrero n’est pas encore venu me voir. Il ne descend pas, cette fois, chez moi; mais, bien entendu, je l’aurai un peu. Si donc, vous voulez essayer de lui parler, venez quand vous voudrez...”. Argentine short-story writer (1899-1986), essayist, poet and translator, and a key figure in Spanish-language literature. Signed half-tone photo, from the period when he was blind, mounted on paper from an album page. Photo was given to a friend who was also a writer, size is 4.4 x 6.75 inches, in excellent condition.

French essayist, musicologist, and critic (1871-1955). Autograph letter signed, 1 page, dated in 1908, written in French, sold untranslated. Bold handwriting and signature. Size is 5.5 x 8.5 inches, in excellent condition.

American author and screenwriter (1920-2012), one of the most celebrated 20th-century American writers. Black-and-white photograph signed by him with a short sentiment dated 2000. Size is 7.9 x 10 inches, in excellent condition.

American educator (1855-1934), director of Harvard Univerisity. Set of two autograph letters in English signed by him, dated 1882, sent to his friend the American philosopher Moncore D. Conway. Each one's size is 4.5 x 6.7 inches, four written pages each, central fold, in excellent condition.

English bibliographer (1762-1837) and genealogist. Autograph letter signed by him, referring to his brother John William Head (1764-1839), dated on December 14th, 1812.  Size is 7.3 x 8.9 inches, 1 page written on a folded folio, folds, minor stains, in excellent condition.

American novelist (1947-2013), very famous for his espionage novels, with storylines set after the cold war. Fine color photograph signed by him, shown probably in one of the films based in any of his novels. Size is 9.9 x 8 inches, in excellent condition.

French literary figure (1840-1913) and director of the Theatre Francais. Autograph letter signed by him, no date, where he addresses a colleague, concerning some financial difficulties of setting up theatre productions. Size is 4.4 x 6.7 inches, spotted rust stains, in overall very good condition.

American writer (1835-1910) whose real name was Samuel Clemens, humorist, publisher and author of the celebrated novel "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" (1876) and its sequel "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" (1885). St. Valentin's Day card, dated by him in 1902. Size is 7.9 x 5.75 inches, creases, in very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is an original photograph by George G. French poet (1889-1963) and also writer, designer, playwright, artist and filmmaker. Signed card, with a short sentiment, attached with a half-tone photograph of him, dated by him in 1960. Size is 5 x 3.25 inches, in excellent condition.

Argentine writer and filmmaker (b.1939). Fine color photograph signed and inscribed by him in Vienna, 2011. Size is 4.9 x 7 inches, in excellent condition.

French librettist and playwright (1828-1892), co-author of Offenbach's "Orphèe aux Enfers" libretto. Autograph letter in French signed by him, about personal matters. Size is 5.21 x 8 inches, 1 page, in very good condition.

English author and journalist (1848-1911). Autograph letter signed by him, dated November 25, 1907, about personal business. Size is 5.3 x 7.2 inches, 1 page, in very good condition. Its original envelope is INCLUDED (not shown).

Portuguese journalist, author and diplomat (1883-1971), wrote numerous novels, short stories, plays, and essays, but was best known for his outspoken editorials.  Autograph letter signed, 2 pages composed in Brussels in 1935, written in French, sold with a 1 page typed French transcription. The original letter is 8.25 x 10.75 inches, folded with a small tear on the right edge, otherwise in very good condition. Transcription is 4.75 x 8.25 inches, with some markings and additions in blue ink, and is in excellent condition.   

French poet (1807-1882), who often collaborated with composers such as Bellini, Rossini, Niedermeyer, and others. Rare autograph letter in French (untranslated) signed by him, dated in Paris, October 25, 1837, addressed to his music publisher: “….je tiens toujours à votre disposition un recueil de plusieurs … de poesies lyriques en tout genre – romances, nocturnes, scènes historiques, tt, à votre choix (…) Connaissant à fond plusieurs instruments et notamment la guitare depuis 15 ans – permettez mois, cher Monsieur, de vous offrir un service pour les accompagnements dont vous pourriez avoir besoin – soit romances, album ou partitions entières…”.  Open size is 8.1 x 6.2 inches, 3 written pages in one folded sheet, creases, folds, dirt, ink, and rust stains, in overall good condition.

Letters are addressed to gentlemen, and concern the music composed by Francis Thomé for his work "L’Enfant Jésus, mystère en 5 parties et en vers". We report an extract as a sample: "...je vous adresse une invitation poiur la répétition générale, en matinée, de ma pièce l'Enfant Jésus (...) nous vous serions obligés de vouloir bien consacrer quelques lignes à notre oeuvre après l'avoir vue...".  Different sizes and lengths, in very good condition or better. Italian writer and journalist (1855-1905), secretary of the Italian Academy of Heraldry, and remembered for being the second editor of the Yearbook of the Italian nobility from 1893 to 1904. Lot of seven large autograph letters signed by him, dated between 1886 and 1890 by him. All letters are presumably addressed to the art critic Henry Lapauze.
