Maria Callas (December 2, 1923 – September 16, 1977) was a Greek soprano born in the United States. She stands as one of the titans of 20th century opera performers. Callas has performed in operas by Verdi, Puccini, and Wagner. Her musical prowess commanded respect and she was known as “La Divina”, or “The Bible of Opera” by Leonard Bernstein.
